About Broadcasting House (BBC). In the novel, Fitzgerald discusses the ship-like appearance of the building and references the statue of Ariel and Prospero (from The Tempest). According to the BBC, "Ariel as the spirit of the air was felt to be an appropriate personification of the spirit of broadcasting."
Code Name Helene by Ariel Lawlorn, a novel based on the life of Nancy Wake, an Australian who worked with the French Resistance and then Special Operations Executive. The novel includes the role of the BBC in transmitting coded messages.
The Rose Code by Kate Quinn, a novel the code breakers at Bletchley Park (with a focus on the women). Fitzgerald's uncle, Dilly Knox, was among the leading cryptographers.
Terry Gross recently interviewed author Adam Hochschild about American Midnight, his new book exploring press censorship, treatment of people who were immigrants, targeting of unions and activists, and more during WWI.
